I am a mom who after seeking out Pre-K teaching resources, decided to instead make up my own stuff. Why? Because my 3 year old does not fit into a mold and I have come to see that only I know what will really keep her attention. So I have made this blog to keep a Journal of all the lessons, art pojects and resources I have created and used. And because writing them on scrap papers and kept loosely in a binder just did not work out so well....

Plating Lima Beans

We did a little Lima Bean project.  It was fun and really easy.
I bought some Lima Beans and we germinated them in plastic bags then later planted them.
I also got her a new investigation drawing journal so she could keep track of the progress of the seeds.

Here is what we did over the course of a week:
Step 1:  I checked out books about seeds and germination and we read them for a few days.  Talked about them and I drew a diagram of the stages of the life of a seed.

Step2: I bought some Lima beans and we drew them in our investigation journal.  Along with the plastic bag and paper towel.  Then we added water to the paper towel and put it and a seed in three bags.
We kept two bags in the sun, and put on in a dark place.

And Dean helped water the beans too...in his mouth.

Step 3:  Over a few days we would check our seeds and on the 3rd day we made a drawing observation of the seeds' changes

Step 4: We planted out seeds and we named each one.  I was going to just called them bean #1, 2 and 3.  But Ella Reese wanted to really name them.  So their names....Huda, Puda, and Kuda.

Step5: We watered them and watched them grow.  Then the intense heat wave killed them. But right before we got to see them grow 2 or so inches.   But about at the same time our tomatoes starting coming in.  So she got to watch those guys grow fully and also eat them.

Super fun!  Get your planting on!!!
