We made puppets! Cloth and paper. Check it out here.
I posted the pics on my family blog.
Scroll past pictures of the kids to get to the puppets.
Here are the materials I used:
Paper puppets:
-stiff paper
-markers, crayons...whatever makes a mark
-packing tape
-large Popsicle sticks
These puppets we are using for a Noah's Ark lesson. We are collecting animal puppets to fill an ark we painted. Post to come!
Cloth puppets:
-felt like material, you can find it in a fabric or craft store
-thread, buttons, needle, sewing machine if one
I am not including instructions on how to make these. It is pretty easy cheesy.
For the cloth puppets here are instructions. They are but trickier. Er...more tricky...
Fold your material in half so you have two pieces stacked on each other. Choose and animal with your child. Place your hand on the cloth and make an outline of the animal in pen or perm marker. Cut out your form. Make sure to cut close to an inch outside of the line. This will a bit of a hem. Otherwise if you cut ON the line, your puppet will become smaller after you sew it.
Sorry I have no pics to demonstrate this. I had two kids trying to "help" me at the sewing machine.
You can do two things here.
You can either turn the cut pieces over, so the insides are facing each other and the once "inside" of the puppet is now on the outside. Whew...I think I confused myself typing that!
OR....you can sew it as you drew and cut it, THEN turn it outside.
The difference really is that the first option will show off your stitch around the edge. I did mine this way. The 2nd way will make the animals look more like stuffed animals...without stuffing. Up to you!
One note on the cloth puppets, if you plan on doing any embellishments or detail, buttons etc... to the puppets, do it before sewing the two pieces together.
Sew and you are done!
The sky is the limit, make animals, food, cards, planes...etc.
Get your sew on! I know that if I did not have my photography...that I would be a sewing/crafting/knitting fool. And then my hubbs would look at it a business way and would try to get me to sell it all.
I know this b/c every time I make ANYTHING, that is the first thing that comes out of his mouth.
"Babe, you should make more of these and you could totally sell them!".
